Recently I was challenged again to meditate on the Beatitudes found in Matthew 5. As I pondered verse 8, my mind flooded with a variety of thoughts. “Blessed at the pure in heart; for they shall see God.” Key words in the first phrase are PURE and HEART. Solomon said, “Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.” Paul told Timothy, “Keep thyself pure.” In both verses the emphasis was upon guarding one’s heart or one’s purity. Isn’t purity a matter of the heart? Someone once said, “A man becomes what he thinks about all day long.” Furthermore, the battle for the soul is won or lost in the mind.
The promise for those who keep a pure heart is the opportunity to see God. How much do you long to see God? Paul said, “That I may know Him, and the power of his resurrection.” Dear friends, until we are face to face with Christ, I encourage you to commune with Him daily through His Word.
